1880 & El Lobo
Founded in 1725 by the Sirvent family, this company is currently run by the 10th generation of the family. In 1939 they instigated a Denomination of Origin Protection status (DOP) for turrón.
Self-proclaimed makers of the worlds finest turron, 1880 have been making this crunchy Spanish treat since the late 18th century (1880 was the year the recipe was written down). They aim to preserve the traditional way nougat has always been made in Spain, and use only the finest raw ingredients.
The ‘1880’ brand is known as the highest quality nougat on the Spanish market. The main difference between their product and other Spanish turrón is the quantity and quality of almonds used. 1880 turrón contains 70% Marcona almonds – these are the most highly regarded, expensive almonds in Spain, set in a delicious brittle base. The soft version is an entirely different product and is very finely ground and quite halva-like in style – but a light brown colour, and the taste is rich almond.
El Lobo, a branch of 1880, donate a percentage of their profits to Unicef. Sugar free products are available.
